Shea Spitzbarth Makes MLB Debut; Becomes Eighth Muskrat to Reach Majors



WINNIPESAUKEE, N.H. – Former Winnipesaukee Muskrat Shea Spitzbarth made his Major League Debut on Monday, August 2nd against the Milwaukee Brewers. Spitzbarth entered the ballgame for the Pittsburgh Pirates at American Family Field in the seventh inning with two outs, tossing one and one-third innings of scoreless work, allowing just one hit and one walk in his first appearance.

Spitzbarth played one season for the then-Laconia Muskrats in 2014 where he pitched in 10 regular-season games and made eight starts while making one playoff start; the right-hander touted a 1.92 ERA in the regular season for Laconia through 46.2 innings of action and striking out 50 batters. In his 2014 playoff start, Spitzbarth suffered the loss through five innings while allowing six hits, two earned runs and one walk, but punching out six.

In two years at Molloy College, Spitzbarth pitched 122 total innings while boasting an 8-2 win-loss record in 20 appearances and striking out 178 total batters on a 1.77 ERA. As a Lion, Spitzbarth was named Co-Pitcher of the Week in April 2015.

Spitzbarth becomes the eighth Muskrat to reach the Major League Baseball ranks and the 179th New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) alumnus to reach the Majors.
