Packy Naughton Makes MLB Debut; Becomes Third Plymouth Pilgrim to Reach Major League Ranks

PLYMOUTH, Mass. – Former Plymouth Pilgrim Packy Naughton made his Major League debut on Sunday, August 8th, versus the reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Naughton came into the ballgame for the Los Angeles Angels at Dodger Stadium in the sixth inning in relief of starting pitcher Reid Detmers, tossing the one inning while working around allowing two hits, one earned run and one walk.

Naughton played one season for the now-defunct Pilgrims in 2015 where, in the regular season, he appeared in nine games and made eight starts for Plymouth; Naughton threw 46-and-one-third innings of action over the course of the summer, striking out 43 batters while boasting a 3.69 ERA and possessing a 4-2 win-loss record.

In his three years with Virginia Tech University, Naughton pitched 177.2 innings and owned a 7-14 overall record in 52 outings and 26 games started, compiling 172 strikeouts and a 6.13 ERA.

Naughton becomes to third Pilgrim to reach the Major League Baseball ranks and the 181st New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) alumnus to reach the Majors, and the seventh former member to debut in MLB this season alone.
