Upper Valley Nighthawks 8, North Adams Steeplecats 9

The North Adams Steeplecats (8-7-2) walked off in extra innings over the visiting Upper Valley Nighthawks (10-8) at Joe Wolfe Field on Monday night. Naturally, two relief pitchers picked up the win/loss decisions in this contest, Jared Henry (University of Massachusetts Amherst) taking home the win for the Steeplecats and the Nighthawks’ William Sullivan (Troy University) bearing the loss.

North Adams scored first in the first inning via a bases-loaded walk, but Upper Valley quickly claimed the lead in the visitor’s half of the second with the help of a two-run single by catcher Raphael Pelletier (Kansas State University). The Nighthawks extended their lead over the Steeplecats in the third inning to 5-1 with a sacrifice fly, an RBI single by cleanup hitter and right fielder Alan Roden (Creighton University) and a bases-loaded walk. North Adams got all three runs back in the home half of the third to make it a 5-4 ballgame in an inning that featured a two-run single from catcher Hayden Gilliland (Tennessee Tech University).

A solo home run by Roden in the top of the fourth inning extended Upper Valley’s lead to 6-4, but Gilliland made it a one-run contest once again in the fifth courtesy of a sacrifice fly. The Nighthawks struck twice again in the top of the sixth inning to make it an 8-5 game, scoring their final two runs of the night by way of an error and an RBI single by second baseman Max Viera (Northeastern University). The Steeplecats began their comeback in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI from shortstop Jon Kozarian (Slippery Rock University), followed by a two-run ninth inning to tie the game and force extra innings thanks to an RBI double by second baseman John Marti (University of Albany) and another sacrifice fly by Gilliland. Valley Blue Sox 7, Ocean State Waves 8

The Ocean State Waves (7-11) defeated the Valley Blue Sox (11-7) on their home turf at Old Mountain Field on Monday night.
