North Shore Navigators 1, Vermont Mountaineers 3

The Vermont Mountaineers (8-5) topped the visiting North Shore Navigators (6-6-2) in Montpelier on Tuesday night in the only contest played across the NECBL. Tucker Wittman (University of Massachusetts Amherst) earned the victory for the ‘Neers in relief (1.0 innings pitched, 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 1 strikeout), while Navs starting pitcher Austin Amaral (Stetson University) suffered the loss on the road (5.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R/earned run, 4 BB, 2 K). Cole Roland (Dartmouth College) secured the save for Vermont.

The matchup remained scoreless until the home half of the fifth inning when Mountaineers left fielder Anthony D’Onofrio (Hofstra University) hit a sacrifice fly to put his squad on the board. Center fielder Curtis Robison (Pennsylvania State University) extended Vermont’s lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run, his second of the summer.

North Shore tallied their first and final run of the contest in the visitor’s half of the eighth inning by way of an RBI single from center fielder Joe Lomuscio (Stanford University) and cut his team’s deficit to just one run. The Mountaineers got that run back in the bottom of the inning as right fielder Vincenzo Castronovo (Bryant University) drew a bases-loaded walk to seal Vermont’s win over the Navigators
