Vermont Mountaineers 8, Winnipesaukee Muskrats 9

The Winnipesaukee Muskrats (4-3) erased an 8-1 deficit down the stretch to secure the win over the visiting Vermont Mountaineers (2-4) on Friday night in Laconia.

The Mountaineers exploded in the top of the second inning with six runs via a grand slam by Keagan Calero (University of Massachusetts Lowell) and a pair of RBI courtesy of Parker Landwehr (Boston College) and Evan Giordano (SUNY Stony Brook). The Muskrats got one run back in the bottom half of the inning to make it 6-1. The score would remain that way until the sixth inning when Vermont extended their lead to 8-1 with the help of a two-run home run from the bat of Giordano in just his second game of the season.

The Muskrats started their epic comeback in the bottom of the sixth inning with a solo home run by Cole Johnson (Kansas State University) to cut his team’s deficit to six runs. Then came the seventh inning in which Winnipesaukee set off fireworks with a five-run campaign. Kevin Catrine (University of North Carolina at Asheville) drove in a runner off of a single and with the help of an error committed by Vermont to get the party started for the home team and bring the score to 8-3. Nick Marrero (Hofstra University) followed suit and brought home another runner with an RBI single, as did Jake LaPrairie (Tulane University) who drove in two off of a single, to make it 8-6. Josh Rodriguez (Rutgers University) drove home the last run of the inning. The ‘Skrats were not finished as Marrero drove home Will Vergantino (Elon University) to tie the game in the eighth inning. Vergantino walked off on Winnipesaukee’s home turf with a sacrifice fly, his second walk-off in as many days for the Muskrats.

Danbury Westerners 7, Ocean State Waves 4

The Danbury Westerners (2-4) snapped their four-game losing skid with a win over the Ocean State Waves (2-4) in South Kingstown on Friday night.

The Westerners got on the board first in this matchup in the second inning, giving themselves their first lead in a game since last Saturday. A solo home run from the bat of Dylan Kim (Yale University) and a Banks Griffith (Stetson University) sacrifice fly gave Danbury a quick 2-0 lead. The visiting team was not quite satisfied with just two runs as they scored three more in the very next inning. A two-run home run from Will Gersky (Georgetown University) and an RBI single by Zach Selinger (Fordham University) made it a 5-0 game in favor of Danbury.

The Waves came crashing in the bottom of the third inning when Ocean State took advantage of a couple of mistakes by the Westerners. The Waves brought home three runners by way of a fielder’s choice, a balk and a passed ball and shortened Danbury’s lead to just 5-3 early in the game. Ocean State made it a 5-4 game with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. The score remained that tight until the seventh inning when the Westerners drove home a runner to give themselves more of a cushiony 6-4 lead. Griffith scored on a passed ball to make it 7-4 in the eighth, which is ultimately what the final score would be.

Mystic Schooners 4, Newport Gulls 13

Keene Swamp Bats 0, North Shore Navigators 10

The North Shore Navigators (3-2-1) ended their two-game losing skid by shutting out the visiting Keene Swamp Bats (2-2) on Friday night at Fraser Field. Navs starting pitcher Luke Marshall earned the victory in a nearly unhittable performance (6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K) as Swamp Bats starter Zachary Davidson (Lincoln Trail College) was handed the loss (3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R/ER, 3 BB, 6 K).

Keene could not get much of anything going in this matchup in their visit to Lynn, Massachusetts, only compiling four total hits on the day. North Shore, however, had a field day at home.
