Ocean State Waves 5, Mystic Schooners 3

The Ocean State Waves (10-13-1) defeated the visiting Mystic Schooners (11-12) at Old Mountain Field on Thursday night. Two relievers earned decisions in this contest, Liam Dvorak (College of the Holy Cross) picking up his first win of the season for the Waves (2 innings pitched, 2 hits, 0 earned runs, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts) and the Schooners’ Dominic Niman (Central Connecticut State University) suffering the loss in his fifth outing of 2021 (1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R/ER, 0 BB, 3 K).

Mystic jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning thanks to a pass ball and an RBI double by center fielder Brendan Cumming (Princeton University) but Ocean State rallied back in the home half of the same inning with three runs to take the lead with the help of a two-run single by shortstop Dylan Hoy (Marist College) and an RBI from designated hitter Nick Hassan (Kennesaw State University). The Waves tallied another run in the bottom of the fifth inning courtesy of an RBI double from second baseman Alex Ramirez (University of Rhode Island) to make it a 4-2 ballgame through five full.

Schooners infielder/outfielder Tucker Flint (University of Maryland) cracked a solo home run, his second of the summer, in the visitor’s half of the seventh inning to bring the score to 4-3, but Ocean State left fielder Travis Honeyman (Boston College) drove home the final run of the game with an RBI single to give his home squad their eventual winning 5-3 advantage in the bottom half of the inning.
