Danbury Westerners 8, Ocean State Waves 7

The Danbury Westerners (20-17) snapped the visiting Ocean State Waves’ (16-21) four-game winning streak with a walk-off victory at Rogers Park on Tuesday night. Westerners relief pitcher Noah Jensen (Elon University) picked up his first win of the season with a shutdown performance in the ninth inning (1 innings pitched, 2 hits, 0 earned runs, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts), and fellow reliever Jake McOsker (College of the Holy Cross) was handed his second loss of the summer for the Waves (0.2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K).

Back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the first inning by Danbury left fielder Cameron Masterman (University of Louisville) and first baseman Andrew Jenkins (Georgia Tech) gave their squad an early lead and a 4-1 edge through three innings until Ocean State cut their deficit in half with the help of a fifth-inning error committed by the home team. The Waves jumped out to a 6-4 lead in the visitor’s half of the eighth with the help of an error that scored two runs, a pass ball and an RBI double by outfielder Ian Ostberg (Quinnipiac University).

The Westies stormed back in the home half of the same inning to take a 7-6 lead thanks to an RBI triple by right fielder Henry Strmecki (University of Dayton) and a pair of RBI base hits from Masterman and shortstop Sebastian Murillo (Long Beach State). A top-of-the-ninth-inning wild pitch scored the Waves’ final run of the evening to tie the ballgame up at seven before Danbury center fielder Justin Jordan (Sacred Heart University) drew a walk-off bases-loaded walk to send the Westerners faithful home happy.

North Adams SteepleCats 6, Vermont Mountaineers 2

The North Adams SteepleCats (20-14-2) stifled the visiting Vermont Mountaineers’ (20-18) five-game winning streak with their fourth consecutive victory in a rain-shortened six-inning contest on Tuesday night at Joe Wolfe Field. SteepleCats starting pitcher Brian Zeldin (University of Pennsylvania) earned his second win of 2021 with a masterful scoreless performance (5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 6 K), and fellow starter Enzo Stefanoni (University of Connecticut) lasted just three innings in his team’s loss (4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K).

North Adams designated hitter Jeremy Lea (University of the Pacific) doubled in the bottom of the first inning to drive home his squad’s first run of the night and right fielder Charles Middleton (University of the Pacific) hit a two-run single in the home half of the third to give the ‘Cats a 3-0 lead early on. The Mountaineers scored their only two runs of the matchup in the top of the fifth via RBI from first baseman Brendan O’Donnell (University of Connecticut) and designated hitter Kade Kretzschmar (Dartmouth College) to cut their deficit to just 3-2.

In the bottom of the same inning, Vermont scored three more times with the help of a sacrifice flies by Middleton and catcher Braden Golinski (United States Military Academy) and an RBI single from third baseman John Marti (University of Albany) before the contest was called due to inclement weather.

Mystic Schooners 8, Martha’s Vineyard Sharks 6

The visiting Mystic Schooners (19-16) and the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks (22-15) came back to win their matchup on Tuesday night at the Shark Tank. Schooners starting pitcher Jordan Warecke (Manhattan College) lasted under just three innings in his third outing of the summer (2.2 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K), and fellow starter Ryan Vanderhei (University of Kansas) tossed four innings for the Sharks in his team’s loss (4 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 8 K). Jared Burrows (University of Hartford) recorded his first save of the season for Mystic.

Schooners left fielder Tucker Flint (University of Maryland) hit a home run in the top of the first inning to give the visiting team a lead, his third longball of the summer. Then, in the home half of the third inning, Martha’s Vineyard blew the game open with five runs, highlighted by two RBI singles from second baseman Will Duff (Vanderbilt University) and first baseman Ryan Hernandez (University of Houston) plus a run from shortstop Jake Berger (Harvard University). Mystic tallied two more runs in the visitor’s half of the fifth with the help of a wild pitch and an RBI single by catcher Michael DeMartino (Southern Connecticut State University).

In the bottom of the fifth, the Sharks recorded another run to extend their lead over Mystic to 6-3. In the top of the seventh inning, the Schooners exploded for five runs of their own to take their eventual winning 8-6 lead, a campaign that saw a two-run single by shortstop Stanton Leuthner (Stony Brook University) and an RBI double from third baseman Daniel Crossen (Northeastern University).

Upper Valley Nighthawks vs. Winnipesaukee Muskrats - Postponed

The visiting Upper Valley Nighthawks (21-16) and the Winnipesaukee Muskrats (11-24) saw their Tuesday night matchup postponed due to rain in Laconia.

The ballgame will be made up on Monday, August 1, at 3:00pm in White River Junction.

Valley Blue Sox vs. Bristol Blues - Suspended

The visiting Valley Blue Sox (20-16) and the Bristol Blues (11-25) played just five innings of baseball before the matchup was suspended due to field conditions at Muzzy Field on Tuesday night.

The 1-1 ballgame will resume at a later date to be determined.

Sanford Mainers vs. North Shore Navigators - Suspended

The visiting Sanford Mainers (14-23) and the North Shore Navigators (17-17-2) saw their Tuesday night contest suspended in the top of the third inning due to inclement weather at Fraser Field.

The affair will resume at a later date with North Shore leading 2-0.
