Game 1: Danbury Westerners 8, Ocean State Waves 4

The first game of a tripleheader between the visiting Danbury Westerners was a continuation of the teams’ July 14th contest that was suspended due to fog in the bottom of the sixth inning, the ballgame tied at 4-4.

Westerners relief pitcher Renn Lints (Bucknell University) earned the win with his masterful, one-hit, zero-walk, four-strikeout scoreless outing, while fellow reliever Cade Kuehler (Campbell University) suffered the loss for the Waves at home (2.2 innings pitched, 4 hits, 4 earned runs, 5 walks, 2 strikeouts).

Danbury took a 5-4 lead in the top half of the eighth inning by way of a solo home run off of the bat of second baseman John Anderson (Georgia Tech) and promptly scored three more times in the ninth and final inning of action thanks to a two-run single by catcher Jack Payton (University of Louisville) and an RBI double from first baseman Andrew Jenkins (Georgia Tech).

Game 2: Ocean State Waves 4, Danbury Westerners 1

The Ocean State Waves took Game 2 of Thursday’s tripleheader between the Danbury Westerners with the help of an early three-run inning. Waves starting pitcher Blayne Deaton (Indiana University) earned his first win of the summer in a stellar performance (5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K), while fellow starter Jimmy Fahey (Trinity College) bore his second loss thus far for the Westerners (6 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K). Shaun Gamelin (Rhode Island College) secured his fourth save of 2021 for Ocean State.

A solo home run by Waves first baseman Daniel Baruch (Boston College) and a two-run shot from left fielder Travis Honeyman (Boston College) in the third inning propelled Ocean State to a 3-0 lead early on. In the same inning, Danbury tallied one run on the scoreboard via an RBI double by second baseman John Anderson (Georgia Tech) to make it 3-1. Another solo longball by Baruch provided the Waves with an insurance run in the seventh.

Game 3: Ocean State Waves 11, Danbury Westerners 4

The Ocean State Waves (14-20) took Game 3 of Thursday’s tripleheader over the Danbury Westerners (17-15) and won it by a record of 2-1 at Rogers Park. Waves starting pitcher Nathan Stahl (Indiana University) picked up his first win of the summer (5 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 5 BB, 6 K), and fellow starter Sean Hogan (Williams College) bore his second loss of 2021 for the Westerners (4 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 6 K).

A bases-loaded hit-by-pitch in the bottom of the first inning gave Danbury an early lead that was extended to 2-0 in the third by way of a solo home run by first baseman William Gersky (University of Richmond). A top-of-the-fourth-inning three-run longball off of the bat of Ocean State center fielder Albert Choi (New Jersey Institute of Technology) gave his visiting squad their first lead of the night.

A seven-run fifth inning by the Waves gave them a 10-2 advantage, a campaign that saw a two-run homer by right fielder Slade Wilks (University of Southern Mississippi) and a two-run single from second baseman Alex Ramirez (University of Rhode Island). The Westies scored their final two runs of the night in the home half of the fifth with the help of a single by right fielder Jake Roper (Palm Beach Atlantic College). An RBI double by Ocean State first baseman Daniel Baruch (Boston College) in the seventh and final inning capped off the scoring in this contest.

Game 1: Bristol Blues 6, Valley Blue Sox 4

The visiting Bristol Blues held off the Valley Blue Sox in Game 1 of the teams’ seven-inning doubleheader at MacKenzie Stadium on Thursday evening. Blues starting pitcher Dominic Agron (Wofford College) threw two innings of work for the visitors (2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K), and fellow starter John MacCauley (Butler University) was handed the loss for the Blue Sox and his second of the summer (5 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K). James Kirkpatrick (Harvard University) recorded his fourth save of 2021 for Bristol.

A solo home run off of the bat of Valley left fielder Brian Hart (Marist College) and his 10th of the season gave the home team an early lead in the bottom of the second inning but the contest was quickly tied by way of an RBI double from Blues designated hitter Chris Davis (Duke University) in the top of the third. A solo longball by Bristol catcher Tyler Keith (Post University) gave his team a 2-1 advantage over the Blue Sox in the visitor’s half of the fourth inning.

An explosive four-run fifth inning for Bristol that saw a Davis three-run homer and an error committed by Valley brought the score to 6-1 in favor of the Blues. A sixth-inning error committed by the Blues drove home a run for Valley and a two-run single from Blue Sox center fielder Brendan Hueth (St. Joseph’s University) in the seventh brought the home squad two runs closer to the visitors, but they could not top the Connecticut team in this one.

Game 2: Valley Blue Sox 7, Bristol Blues 2

The Valley Blue Sox (19-13) topped the visiting Bristol Blues (11-22) on Wednesday night at MacKenzie Stadium with the help of a pair of high-scoring innings to split the doubleheader. Blue Sox starting pitcher Jonathan Kelly (Xavier University) picked up his third win of the summer with a phenomenal performance (5 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K), while fellow starter Garrett Coe (University of Connecticut) was roughed up on the road for the Blues (4 IP, 9 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K).

Valley took an early 4-0 lead in the home half of the second inning that they would not let go of by way of three RBI singles from third baseman Travis Holt (High Point University), shortstop Mason LaPlante (Yale University) and designated hitter Cole Andrews (Miami University).

Bristol tallied their first run of the night in the top of the sixth courtesy of a wild pitch, but the Blues responded immediately in the bottom half with three runs via a two-run homer off of the bat of Andrews and an RBI double by right fielder Luke Franzoni (Xavier University). Bristol center fielder Chris Davis (Duke University) drew a bases-loaded walk in the visitor’s half of the seventh and final inning to cap off the scoring in this ballgame.

North Adams SteepleCats 6, Winnipesaukee Muskrats 5

The visiting North Adams SteepleCats (16-13-2) defeated the Winnipesaukee Muskrats (11-20) and handed the home team their third consecutive loss on Thursday night in Laconia. SteepleCats starting pitcher Samuel Bennett (University of Pennsylvania) took home his second win of the summer (5 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 8 K), and fellow starter Josh Lajoie (St. John’s University) was handed his third loss of 2021 for the Muskrats (4.1 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, 2 K). Camden Lovrich (Jacksonville State University) recorded his second save of the season for North Adams.

Winnipesaukee center fielder Joshua Rodriguez (Rutgers University) cracked a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning to give his team an early lead that would quickly disappear in the visitor’s half of the third as the SteepleCats exploded for five runs, a campaign that saw a grand slam by shortstop Jon Kozarian (Slippery Rock University) and a sacrifice fly by first baseman John Marti (University of Albany).

Two more runs came home for the ‘Skrats via RBI singles by first baseman Ramon Jiminez (Boston College) and left fielder Cole Johnson (Kansas State University) in the fourth and sixth innings and North Adams third baseman Lucas Donlon (Virginia Tech University) doubled to bring home his team’s final run of the night in the seventh. An eighth-inning solo shot by Johnson capped off the scoring in this affair.

Sanford Mainers 7, Keene Swamp Bats 4

The visiting Sanford Mainers (12-19) simultaneously extended their winning streak to three games while snapping the Keene Swamp Bats’ (20-12) three-game victory streak on Thursday night at Alumni Field. Mainers starting pitcher John West (Boston College) threw four innings in the win (5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K), and fellow starter Cole Stallings (Stetson University) lasted just 3-⅓ innings for the Swamp Bats (3 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 3 K).

A two-run home run in the top of the second inning by Sanford first baseman Ubaldo Lopez (Georgetown University) and an RBI single from Keene second baseman Omar Daniels (University of Dayton) in the bottom of the inning brought the score to 2-1 before Mainers catcher Shane Paradine (Stony Brook University) cracked a two-run shot of his own in the visitor’s half of the fourth to extend his team’s lead to 4-1. Swamp Bats shortstop Zach Bushling (University of Connecticut) singled to drive home another run in the home half of the fourth and cut his team’s deficit in half once again.

Keene first baseman Noah Martinez (Central Connecticut State University) hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to bring the score to 4-3 until Sanford exploded for three runs in the sixth thanks to a solo dinger by designated hitter Freddy Rojas Jr. (Texas Rio Grande Valley), an RBI single by right fielder Derek Smith (Bryant University) and another by left fielder Calvi Hewett (Vanderbilt University). An error committed by the Mainers in the bottom of the sixth brought home one last run for the home team, but that would be the last instance of scoring in this contest.

North Shore Navigators 5, Vermont Mountaineers 4

The North Shore Navigators (15-14-2) walked off versus the visiting Vermont Mountaineers (15-17) in a nail-biter of a finish at Fraser Field on Thursday night. Navigators starting pitcher Luke Marshall (Stonehill College) threw six crucial innings in the win (3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K), and fellow starter Josh O’Neill (Stony Brook University) put up similar numbers to Marshall for the Mountaineers (5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K).

A bottom-of-the-first-inning solo home run by North Shore first baseman Logan Bravo (Harvard University), his 10th longball of the year, gave the home team an early lead that would soon be tied in the visitor’s half of the second inning as Mountaineers right fielder Casey Mayes (Michigan State University) singled to drive home a run. A wild pitch thrown by the ‘Neers in the bottom of the third scored a run for the Navs, giving them a 2-1 edge early on.

Vermont second baseman Craig Larsen (University of Pennsylvania) tied the ballgame up again in the sixth inning with an RBI double, but the Navs reclaimed their lead again, this time making it 3-2 in favor of the home squad thanks to a wild pitch in the seventh. The Mountaineers were not having it as Mayes drove home two runs in the top of the ninth inning via a triple to take their first lead of the evening, but it would not last long as Navs second baseman Jacob Gustin (Bryant University) launched a solo homer to tie things up at three and in the very next at-bat, center fielder Joe Lomuscio (Stanford University) walked it off with a solo longball of his own.

Mystic Schooners 10, Martha’s Vineyard Sharks 9

The visiting Mystic Schooners (17-14) edged the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks (19-13) in extra innings to earn their fourth straight victory on Thursday night at the Shark Tank. Schooners starting pitcher Jack DiLauro (College of the Holy Cross) tossed three innings in the win to start the contest (3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K), while fellow starter Jackson Nezuh (Florida State University) threw five for the Sharks in his seventh outing of the summer (4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 10 K). Jonathan Velazquez (Stetson University) secured his first save of 2021 for Mystic.

Each squad scored one run apiece in the first inning and a second-inning solo homer by the Schooners’ third baseman Daniel Crossen (Northeastern University) to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. The Sharks tied things up in the home half of the fourth with a sacrifice fly from left fielder Trey Leonard (University of Louisville) and a fifth-inning two-run homer by catcher Haydyn McGeary (Colorado Mesa University) gave Martha’s Vineyard the lead to make it a 4-2 contest. Mystic jumped back out to a 6-4 advantage through six innings of action with the help of a two-run dinger by catcher Michael DeMartino (Southern Connecticut State University).

The Sharks got themselves within one run in the bottom of the seventh inning by way of a sacrifice fly from center fielder Tommy Seidl (University of Alabama) and took a 7-6 lead in the eighth with the help of a pair of errors. In back-and-forth fashion, the Schooners scored twice in the top of the ninth via an RBI double from second baseman Addison Kopack (University of Rhode Island) and an error. However, the Sharks were not finished biting and tied it up in the home half of the ninth to force extra innings tied at eight thanks to a wild pitch. A two-run single by Mystic first baseman Christopher Brito (Rutgers University) gave the squad a 10-8 lead in the top of the 10th and barely held off Martha’s Vineyard in the bottom of the inning as they came within one run.
