Bristol Blues 10, Team Israel 2

In an exhibition game at Dunkin Donuts Park in Hartford, Connecticut, the Israel baseball team faced off against the Bristol Blues on Wednesday morning ahead of their flight to Tokyo for the Olympics next week. Bristol earned a dominant win over Israel with a pair of explosive innings.

The Blues jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning courtesy of an RBI triple by outfielder Mark Coley (University of Rhode Island) and Israel tied things up in the bottom of the fourth by way of a sacrifice fly. Bristol then exploded for four runs in the top of the sixth with the help of pass ball and RBI from infielders Christian Fedko (University of Connecticut) and Brennen Dorighi (Wofford College) and outfielder Anthony Galason (Elon University) to make it a 5-1 score.

Israel’s Danny Valencia launched a home run to cut his team’s deficit to just 5-2, but the Blues had other plans the rest of the way and scored five more runs in the seventh inning to grab a blowout win in Hartford.

Winnipesaukee Muskrats 6, Sanford Mainers 2

The visiting Winnipesaukee Muskrats (9-17) defeated the Sanford Mainers (8-17) at Goodall Park on Wednesday night with the help of early and often scoring. Muskrats relief pitcher Reese Sharp (Indiana University) earned the win with four innings of work at the end of the contest (4 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts) and Mainers starting pitcher Matthew Aronson (University of Massachusetts Amherst) suffered his third straight loss in as many appearances (4 innings pitched, 5 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 3 K).

Winnipesaukee third baseman Ramon Jiminez (Boston College) ripped an RBI double in the visitor’s half of the first inning to give his team an early lead that would be extended to 2-0 in the top of the third by way of an RBI single from second baseman Simon Baumgardt (Tulane University). Sanford cut their deficit in half with the help of an RBI single by leadoff hitter and center fielder Cam Ridley (Eastern Kentucky University) in the home half of the fourth inning. An RBI double by Baumgardt extended the ‘Skrats lead to 3-1 in the top of the fifth and another RBI double in the sixth inning from right fielder Jake LaPrairie (Tulane University) brought the score to 4-1.

An RBI base hit by Sanford third baseman Mitchell Moralez (Utah Valley University) in the bottom of the sixth inning made it a 4-2 ballgame, the final instance in which the Mainers would see a runner of theirs cross home plate. Two more runs scored for Winnipesaukee in the ninth inning courtesy of a wild pitch and another RBI base hit by Baumgardt to cap off the scoring in this one.

North Adams SteepleCats 6, Keene Swamp Bats 3

The visiting North Adams SteepleCats (12-11-2) snapped their three-game losing skid with a win over the Keene Swamp Bats (17-9) at Alumni Field on Wednesday night. SteepleCats starting pitcher Corey Bosecker (Butler University) tossed three solid innings of work (2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) and fellow starter Jake Neuman (Central Connecticut State University) endured a rough outing for the Swamp Bats (2.2 IP, 4 H, 5 runs, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K).

A three-run top of the first inning by North Adams saw an RBI double by designated hitter Jeremy Lea (University of the Pacific) and a two-run home run from left fielder Charles Middleton (University of the Pacific) to give their squad an early 3-0 edge. A two-run home run by Keene’s first baseman Noah Martinez (Central Connecticut State University) cut his squad’s deficit to just one run in the home half of the second.

Another two-run homer by Lea extended the SteepleCats’ lead to 5-2 through three innings of action and another RBI from Lea brought the score to 6-2 in the fifth. A solo dinger by Swamp Bats Player of the Week and left fielder Thomas Joseph (Jacksonville University) capped off the scoring in this one in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Mystic Schooners 11, Newport Gulls 7

The visiting Mystic Schooners (13-12) handed the Newport Gulls (16-10) their third straight loss with a high-scoring, six-inning victory due to inclement weather at Cardines Field on Wednesday night. Both starting pitchers threw short outings for their respective teams, the Schooners’ Brennan O’Neill (Seton Hall University) lasting just 2-⅓ innings (3 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K) and Justin Cherry (University of Rhode Island) tossing 3-⅔ for the Gulls (8 H, 8 ER, 2 BB, 3 K).

Two runs came home for Mystic in the top of the opening inning by way of a wild pitch and an RBI single by third baseman Daniel Crossen (Northeastern University) and a two-run single by leadoff hitter and center fielder Brendan Cumming (Princeton University) in the second gave the visiting team an early 4-0 advantage. Newport cut the Schooners’ lead in half in the home half of the third inning with the help of an RBI single by first baseman Bryce Hulett (University of Pittsburgh) and a sacrifice fly.

An explosive seven-run fourth inning by Mystic that featured a two-run triple by designated hitter Addison Kopack (University of Rhode Island), a two-run home run from left fielder Jimmy Sullivan (University of Virginia) and a two-run double by first baseman Corey DiLoreto (Northeastern University) blew open the ballgame to a score of 11-2. Four runs crossed home plate in the bottom of the fifth for the Gulls with the help of an error, a balk, an RBI single by third baseman Joe Fortin (University of Rhode Island) and an RBI from left fielder Jordon Rogers (University of Michigan) brought the score to 11-6. Newport scored once more in the bottom of the sixth before the contest was called due to weather.

Valley Blue Sox 5, Martha’s Vineyard Sharks 3

The visiting Valley Blue Sox (16-9) came back in the seventh and final inning of a game that was suspended due to fog over the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks (15-11) on Wednesday night at the Shark Tank. Blue Sox starting pitcher Jack MacCauley (Butler University) tossed six innings of work on the road (6 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 6 BB, 4 K) and Jackson Nezuh (Florida State University) threw four phenomenal innings of work for the Sharks (4 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K).

Martha’s Vineyard got out to an early lead with a sacrifice fly by left fielder Matt Woods (Bryant University) in the bottom of the second inning and a third-inning solo home run by catcher Spencer Bramwell (Colorado Mesa University), but Valley cut it in half in the visitor’s half of the fourth with a solo homer by left fielder Brian Hart (Marist College).

A balk committed by the Blue Sox in the home half of the fifth dove home the Sharks’ third and final run of the evening before Valley exploded for their four-run winning seventh inning courtesy of an RBI single from second baseman Jack Housinger (Xavier University), a two-run double from shortstop Mason LaPlante (Yale University) and an RBI base hit by Hart.

Danbury Westerners vs. Ocean State Waves - Postponed at 4-4 in the sixth inning

The Danbury Westerners (11-11) and the Ocean State Waves (10-16-1) experienced a postponement at Old Mountain Field on Wednesday night due to fog. The game will continue where it left off in the sixth inning at a later date to be determined.

Westerners infielder Zach Selinger (Fordham University) got his visiting team on the board first in the top of the second inning, but the Waves took the lead in the home half by way of a two-run single from infielder Dylan Hoy (Marist College). An RBI double by Ocean State infielder Griffin Merritt (University of Cincinnati) and a sacrifice fly gave the home team a 4-1 advantage in the bottom of the fifth after a fog delay, but another delay was quickly put into effect. Danbury got themselves in comeback mode courtesy of a two-run single by infielder Andrew Jenkins (Georgia Tech) plus another run to tie the ballgame up at 4-4 before fog suspended the contest.

Vermont Mountaineers vs. Upper Valley Nighthawks - Postponed

The visiting Vermont Mountaineers (13-12) and the Upper Valley Nighthawks (15-12) saw their Wednesday night matchup in White River Junction postponed due to rain in the area.

The ballgame will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Wednesday, July 21, at 4:00pm at the Maxfield Sports Complex.
