Bristol Blues 7, Ocean State Waves 7

Thursday night’s contest between the visiting Bristol Blues (4-16-1) and the Ocean State Waves (7-12-1) was cut short at seven innings due to rain and ended in a tie at Old Mountain Field, the third tie the NECBL has seen so far this summer. Waves starting pitcher Domenic Picone (University of Rhode Island) tossed three hitless and scoreless innings of work while striking out six batters, and Blues starter Garrett Coe (University of Connecticut) threw 4 ⅓ innings while allowing nine hits and seven runs, all earned, and striking out two.

Ocean State took a 1-0 lead in the first inning with the help of an RBI from designated hitter Slade Wilks (University of Southern Mississippi). Left fielder Travis Honeyman (Boston College) extended his team’s lead over Bristol to 2-0 with a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning, his fifth of the summer. A two-run homer by second baseman Alex Ramirez (University of Rhode Island) made it a 4-0 ballgame in the fourth inning of action. The Blues got themselves on the board in the visitor’s half of the fifth inning courtesy of an RBI double by designated hitter Anthony Galason (Elon University) and an RBI base hit from catcher Tyler Keith (Post University) to make it a 4-2 contest.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Ocean State extended their lead to 7-2 with the help of an RBI double by right fielder Griffin Merritt (University of Cincinnati), an RBI single from Wilks and another by catcher Nick Hassan (Kennesaw State University). However, Bristol was not finished as they exploded for five runs in the top of the sixth to tie the ballgame. An error committed by the Waves, an RBI base hit by second baseman Christian Fedko (University of Connecticut), a two-run single from first baseman Brennen Dorighi (Wofford College) and an RBI by Galason tied things up at seven. Shortly thereafter in the seventh, the nail-biter would be called due to inclement weather.
