Josiah Gray Makes MLB Debut; Becomes 25th Danbury Westerner to Reach Major League Ranks



DANBURY, Conn. – Former Danbury Westerner Josiah Gray made his Major League Debut on Monday, July 20th against the San Francisco Giants. Gray entered the ballgame for the reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the third inning pitching four innings of work while allowing four runs on four hits and striking out seven batters while walking just one.

Gray played one season for the Westerners in 2016 where he appeared in two regular-season games and two postseason contests for Danbury; Gray did not allow a run or a walk in either of his regular-season outings and let up just one hit in the playoffs through both of his appearances. Over the course of his four outings, Gray struck out eight batters through 5.2 innings of action and finished the summer with a 1.59 ERA.

In his three years at LeMoyne College, Gray pitched 116.1 innings with a 12-2 record in 34 appearances and 13 games started. Over the course of his college career, Gray collected a plethora of accolades as a Dolphin, including being the first NCBWA (National College Baseball Writers Association) National Pitcher of the Year after the conclusion of his junior year. Gray was also the first LeMoyne pitcher to claim academic All-American First-Team honors as he touted a 4.0 GPA in his final year with the school.

Gray becomes the 25th Westerner to reach Major League Baseball and the 178th New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) alumnus to reach the Majors.
