The Deflategate Curse Lives On, Continues to Haunt the Ravens

I’m throwing it back a bit today, most likely giving you folks, along with myself, Vietnam-esque flashbacks, and bringing up Deflategate, but for a good reason. Fear not, though, there won’t be any court transcripts or air pressure statistics found here. Only some good old fashioned curse chat which once upon a time, the Baltimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts brought on themselves and still on to this very day.

Whether you personally believe in curses, jinxes or anything of that nature or not, it’s quite obvious that since that infamous day in January of 2015 when John Harbaugh complained to the league that the Patriots used an “illegal formation” and the Colts decided to join in on the fun a week later, that it’s only been downhill for both of those franchises on and off the field. Numerous laughable accounts have occurred since then, over two and a half years ago (time flies, huh?), such as both teams not even sniffing the playoffs and Indianapolis undergoing serious front office changes just to name a few (aside from the point, I’m still dumbfounded to this day that the Colts even made it to the AFC title game in the first place).

Most notably and recently, the Ravens have suffered countless major injuries, losses and have been in the middle of conflicts this particular offseason, and it’s been a joy to watch, as most Patriots fans can attest to. As all football fans know, the best kind of training camp news is no news at all, and the Ravens are providing basically the only training camp news right now.

The list of Baltimore injuries that have popped up this offseason are astounding: RB Kenneth Dixon (MCL), CB Maurice Canady (MCL), TE Crockett Gilmore (MCL), G Nico Siragusa (ACL/MCL/PCL), CB Tavon Young (ACL), TE Dennis Pitta (hip) and QB Joe Flacco (back). Not to mention the retirements of G John Urschel and LB Zach Orr, plus the year-long suspension that was slapped on TE Darren Waller.

I’m not one to celebrate injuries because one, that’s a pretty disgusting thing to do in the first place, and two, that’s just asking for karma to smack you upside the head, so we’re not celebrating that long list of injuries here. I feel awful for all of those injured players and wish them nothing but the best in their recoveries.

On the other hand, as it stands for the Ravens organization as a whole, HAHAHAHAHA. That’s what you get and what you deserve. Think about it. A National Football League team thought it would be a bright idea to gang up with the rest of the league and attempt to sabotage and take down one of, if not the, the greatest dynasties in the history of professional sports. They thought they wouldn’t suffer the wrath of karma both on and off the turf for years to come if their carefully thought out plan had somehow backfired.

While the Ravens and Colts do their very best to figure out just where they went wrong, Tom Brady just turned fourty years old and is playing some of the best football of his career, Bill Belichick surrounded his quarterback with the utmost talent, the Patriots have a legitimate shot at going undefeated, and so much more.

While the Ravens’ owner reportedly won’t allow the team to sign QB Colin Kaepernick as the free agent remains unemployed and stirs more and more controversy by the day, the Patriots are struggling to find a place to put their fifth Super Bowl banner and have to redesign the facade. While the Ravens’ owner denies such report of the Kaepernick news and makes himself look like even more of a fool no matter which side you’re on, the Patriots brought in a petting zoo full of goats on Brady’s birthday at training camp to honor his status. While the Ravens have literally no tight ends and their offensive line is in shambles, the Patriots are looking to become the first team to win three Super Bowls in a span of four years, twice.

I’m one of those weirdos who believes in curses and jinxes; for instance, I wear the same outfit every time the Patriots play and sit in the same spot on the same couch each and every game day in fear of messing with what’s worked for so long. So, naturally, I believe in the Deflategate curse. I understand if you think I’m crazy, but I’m not alone here. What Indianapolis and Baltimore have went through since the beginning of 2015 compared to what New England has is no coincidence. The football gods are just doing their job, and you can’t knock them for that. Live it up, Patriots fans. As for Ravens and Colts fans, sorry not sorry.
