The New England Patriots have added Rob Gronkowski’s younger brother, Glenn Gronkowski, to the practice squad, the team announced on Saturday.
New England release newly acquired DL John Hughes from the 53-man roster to make room for TE Greg Scruggs, and released WR Da’Ron Brown from the PS to make space for baby Gronk. ESPN’s Field Yates had it first.
Fullback Gronkowski played three years at Kansas State, and was named First Team All-Big 12 in 2014 and First Team Academic All-Big 12 from 2013-2015 in that three-year span. Gronkowski played 23 games while at Kansas, with limited stats:
Rushing: 16 attempts, 51 yards, 3.2 average, with 1 TD.
Receiving: 15 receptions, 369 yards, 24.6 average, with 5 TDs.
Scrimmage: 31 plays, 420 yards, 13.5 average, with 6 TDs.
Glenn is 6’3”, 234 pounds, and entered the league as a rookie free agent, signing with the Buffalo Bills back in early May. He also made the 53-man roster, and played in the opener against Baltimore, but recorded no stats.
New England doesn’t often utilize the fullback position, with one FB on the 53-man roster, James Develin, and favoring their total of five tight ends, but there’s always a chance. Patriots fans can dream.
